ISO 22000/SQF Certification for starters

Hi All,

I am a recent Food Science graduate and looking forward for a career in Quality Assurance/Quality control. I often times see that job descriptions prefer a candidate with an ISO 22000 or SQF certification. Is it beneficial to take these certifications on your own or is it some thing the company you work for encourages to take once you start working.
If you recommend me to take these certifications, can you suggest appropriate online resources. I am planning on taking online courses. There is a lot of information available online but not sure where to look or how much to spend on these certifications.

They prefer candidates that are ISO 22000 certified? Or candidates knowledgeable with ISO 22000? Are individuals being certified too? It is quite confusing. I am a newbie too and I have not heard of individual ISO 22000 certification here in the Philippines.

Regarding ISO 22000, I'm confused by this thread.

I failed to find any indication in Scope section of standard that isolated individuals, however knowledgeable regarding the standard's contents, are certifiable "directly" to the standard.

I thought only Companies / Organisations could be certified. ??

Had a quick look at ISO website which seems to have been given a make-over. Searching "certification iso 22000" > list of standards. Very helpful.

Perhaps i am misunderstanding the thread's interpretation of "Certification" ?

Me too, I thought companies / organizations are the one that is being certified and not individuals? Hmmm...

Sorry for the confusion. I was referring to scenario where a person would take an online course say on ISO 22000 and gets a certificate after the course completion (like the one there is in the e-learning section of this website). I was checking if taking such "certificates" would be of any value as a starter in my QA/QC career.

Hi!

I guess having those certificates will be nice, as they will look good on your CV. But the best will still be, on how you apply your knowledge of these to real-life food safety-related scenarios.
