BRC v.6 Standard 7.2.3 is the one i believe you are referencing. This standard is referring to bandages used to cover cuts and grazes. Bandages must be metal detectable (Bandages that contain a metal detectable strip) and colored
that is different from the product color (preferably blue). These must be controlled by the company and monitored.

Also on standard 7.2.4, where metal detection equipment is used a sample from each batch of bandages (plasters) shall be successfully tested through the equipment.

P.S. Don’t forget to vote for my photo “jpredmore” in the IFSQN t-shirt contest.

Just to add...

The idea is simple. If a plaster or bandage comes off the person wearing it and it finds its way into the product it will be detected by the metal detector rather than the consumer.

Also you must ensure that every batch of meta detectable strips are tested through your metal detector and that it is documented. This is a for sure non conformance which can easily be prevented.
I have a parallel question regarding plasters as discussed in 7.2.3: "...These shall be company issued and monitored..."
What is the expectation for 'monitoring'?

This usually means when you purchase a new batch of metal detectable plasters you record the batch number of the plaster (printed on the outer box) and they are checked through the metal detector under normal production conditions e.g. in the final test packs and records of the their detection against the batch number recorded.

In addition, when a plaster is issued it should be recorded e.g. person issued and received, date/time, batch number and a record of accounting (what happened to the plaster, where do it go after the person was finished using it). Also the conditions under which the plaster is used should be fully documented e.g. should they be covered by gloves etc.

Perhaps we should find a vendor that implants RFID tags in the plaster/adhesive strip - that way we can serialize each one and track it as it moves about the building!

Is anyone using metal-detectable disposable nitrile gloves yet?
