Metal Detection and X-Ray HACCP Help

Hi Everyone,

My company is using a metal detector as our final CCP.  If we were to install a x-ray/weight check on the line, would the x-ray then become the final CCP or can I call it a quality control point rather than a critical control point?

Thanks in advance for any help,

AA NNFF

I think more information is needed to answer your question. What are you making and what's the general flow of your process.

Hi AA NNFF,

I have in the past had both the X-ray and the MD as CCP's. This was for a retail dried fruit product and both of the detection systems were located towards the end of the packing process. The Xray did not detect metal to the level of the MD hence both were CCP's. As stated above, a little more info is required.

Regards

Julie

I agree with Julie...it really depends on whether or not the X-ray/weigh checker are specifically put there to bring hazards to an acceptable level...if so, then they are CCPs...However, if they are only for "monitoring" purposes, then they are just control points (non-critical).
