H1 Food Grade Approved Lubricants

Hello all,

My USDA supervisor informed me I need to remove WD-40 from my plant. We were using it on food processing equipment and it is not approved to do as such. I am looking for a replacement lubricant that the food industry has found to work effectively, as well as it needs to be H1 approved so I can use it on my equipment and not have to worry about it getting on my product.

Does anyone have experience with any food grade lubricants that have worked well?

Our maintenance group like the LPS family of lubricants.

With WD-40, you have an allergen contamination right out of the gate...EDITED to ADD I guess that's just a myth.

For Gear Oils - FOODLUBE Hi-Torque

For Compressor Oils - FOODLUBE Hi-Power

For Bearing Lubricants - FOODLUBE Extreme

Thank you for your quick responses. I am sure I will find a Food grade approved lubricant from the ones listed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can have H2 lubricants in my plant, I just can not use them for direct or indirect applications?

Is there any literature or webstie that explains more indepth analysis of chemicals in a food processing plant? This is all sort of new to me.

I have referred a lot of Australian and New Zealand packaging manufacturers to the Approved Maintenance Compounds schedule on the NZ Govt  MPI web site;

You can search for all lubricants, pest materials, cleaners etc.

Make sure you also check the "Approval Codes" to see the approved application conditions for each item.

IF anyone else has something like this list for other countries please let me know. Would be good for all forum members to have a list of approved materials for each country. Maybe Simon can publish the web site links on his web site!

Inox has a product that is a direct replacement for WD-40, and its food safe... i even use it on my fishing reels so the lubricant doesnt interfere with my chances to get a good feed, haha.

Sprayon is another company that manufactures H1 lubes (and an extensive list of other NSF registered products).  We use Sprayon LU104 in particular.
