Internal Audits Vs. Self Inspections
Can anybody explain to me the principal differences between internal audits according ISO 9001 and self-inspections? Thanks in advance,

I would say self inspections should be on daily or weekly basis, and can be done by designated employees from QA or production and verified by QA Manager whereas Internal audits is something going into more detail, done by QA or HACCP Coordinator but on lesser frequency like quarterly or biannually....
'Self inspection' is the check or inspection done by the responsible personnel themselves according to pre-determined frequency.
'Internal audit' is the check or inspection done by the independent trained personnel according to the pre-determined frequency. The key words are 1) 'independent' - means the responsible personnel cannot conduct this; 2) 'trained' - means the internal auditor should know about the sections that assigned to perform the audit.
Main difference between a self inspection audit and an internal audit is whose doing the auditing. There are 1st party, 2nd part and 3rd part audits. Self inspections fall under 1st party audits. That is when a company audits itself.
A 3rd party audit is when another company unrelated to the company it is auditing like an independent auditing company comes in an audit you.
A 2nd party audit is when the same company is audited internally/within. A good example is a large corp that have multiple companies in different locations and HQ comes in an audit each of the locations. That is an example of an audit within the same company but not by the same branch as the parent company (HQ) is auditing one of its sister branches keeping it within the same company affiliation. However, if u have a smaller company w/out multiple branches, a company will have different departments not associated with each other to audit each other for eg. Quality Control dept may audit production. Production dept may audit maintenance, etc. As long as the same dept is not doing all of the auditing within the same company it is considered an internal or 2nd party audit.
Is there a difference really.
When you talk strictly in terms definitions as per ISO 9001; there is definition for internal audit. ISO 9001 does not use the the term self inspection.
So internal audit is planned arrangement for self inspection. Then as per ISO 9001 there are technical requirements like auditors being independent, qualification of auditors, scope of the audit, reports (Non conformity, closure, CAPA etc), management review etc.

I DONT THINK U NEED TO CALL IT SELF INSPECTION- U CANNOT INSPECT UR OWN WORK .. U CAN ONLY CHECK IT.
INTERNAL AUDIT IS A MUCH MORE ELABORATE AND PLANNED SYSTEM TO CHECK CONFORMITY/NOFORMITY TO REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FULL FACILITY
It was explained in an internal auditing class I took that an internal audit is done with a standard, a self inspection is done with a flashlight. I think of an internal audit as an independent evaulation of compliance or non-compliance to a standard. A self inspection is a physical inspection of conditions and practices as they relate to the scope of the inspection, be it food safety, sanitation, pest control, GMP, etc.
Well I will tell from the Food Safety Management System perspective (ISO 22000). They both fall under the umbrella of the Verification Planning under the well-defined FSMS or QMS.
The way we have it defined is that the self-inspection is rather oriented to an actual inspection of the GMP and PRP compliance (as someone mentioned "flash-light"), whereas the Internal audit is structured in a way that it includes documentation review, inspection, interviews, records review etc.; and audits the compliance to a certain standard.
The frequency of both is defined by the establishment itself and available resources. You do not want to set up yourself for failure with setting the frequency too often and not actually performing it. As for Internal Audits, I think that majority of the standards ask for them to be done on at least annual basis.
Both of these have to be documented in order to be defendable during the certification audit. It is always useful to have the checklists prepared (and controlled in order to satisfy the standard).
Summaries of both of these are also to be discussed as a part of the Management Review Process.

Self inspections are going out with a flashlight and checking for situational GMP / Food safety conformities and non-conformities. (i.e. Are good house keeping practices being used, is sanitation adequate, are doors and screens properly shut with no gaps.........)
Internal Audits - Incorporates the self inspection, but goes a step further by auditing the processes against a set standard. (i.e. Does the company have a good pest control policy and is it being implemented as stated, has a HACCP plan been developed and verified, is the company saying what is does and doing what it says...........)
i have been following up of the issue of self inspections and internal audits,i am seeking a clarification whether i am to raise corrective action request form for self inspection or i just leave that to internal audit?

Our Corrective Action policy is to complete a root cause analysis and do the whole corrective action process for all internal audit findings and only TRENDING internal inspection findings. We log all findings in an excel document and categorize them so they can be easily trended.

As per my knowledge Self-investigation is a strategy to recheck your task and work done by you, and inside review is a free and goal useful action, which gives security and administration exhortation.

my question was in regard to internal audits and gmp inspections.We are ISO 22000 certified.We were thinking ,instead of waiting to do internal audits which are twice annually,we can come up with Internal GMP inspections,these we will do monthly,now what i am not sure is whether we are going to raise CARs for the gmp inspections as we do for internal audits ,or we just do ticking and award marks as per the checklists and then afterwards writes some observations?

Internal Audit- Entire process (ie .maintenance,production ,quality) all together with trained ,skilled personals

Self inspection is when you are getting checked you own work with you own intention, but internal audit is a work performed by internal audit department to check whether organization is doing well in order to achieve its objective to fulfill the product quality characteristic.
i thinks that inspection iss daily, weekly & monthly. And internal audit is manual
