Hi Simon,

Two and 2/3  Policies below.

IMO the intended scope of document is crucial and must be initially decided. (In present case literature focus is typically on Physical hazards but not always the sole category of foreign body hazard, eg Chemical).

The preferred structure of the overall written “control system” is also relevant (see below)

The policy style can be (inter alia) such as (A) “philosophical” overview or (B) hybrid, menu-type.

Consequence is that text can vary from very brief (A) to very extended (B, typically including some/lot Procedural content).

Policy Examples (Foreign Body Related)

More like TypeA

(1) see att0 credit Zeeshan

1st para. nicely presented IMO. The included sub-sections is a worthwhile idea IMO but the details given  (ie partial B) seems rather arbitrary?,. Plastic is where ??  This is a problem where the scope is, in reality, substantial. see comments post6 above thread if interested. Also compare following example.

(2) see att2 (Tesco)

See pg 75. First 2 paras are essentially the “Policy” (must > will/has ?). Next 8- 9pgs are essentially “Procedure / WI”.  This format illustrates the potential magnitude of the “Physical” scope. Seems no mention Chemical (maybe elsewhere).

(3) see att3. This is sort of ISO-type approach/format. Generic advice only –

In the above the Company states its intention /its Policy to minimise the risk of contamination of  products in PP01 Foreign Body Control Policy and the ways in which this is to be achieved.

Preumably expecting a very short Policy precis.

More like type B

(1) see att1 (credit safefood). Scope intentionally focuses on glass/plastic only due relevance to BRC

see pgs 3-4

Policy is merged with Procedure so extended  but  still a quite nice / concise document.

Thanks for the references Charles, I will have a read.
