Bobex,

what do you mean by 'LFBG'?

Hi,

LFGB = Lebensmittel- und Futtermittel-Gesetzbuch is the German food law also covering food contact materials.

With relation to food contact materials the law is referencing to the 1935/2004 mainly.

Please have a look to the new IFS packaging Guide Version 2 or on the home page of the German association (www.bll.de) where they have published guidelines a few years ago (available in German and English) developed from experts from industry.

Please keep in mind that a declaration of conformity is possible for same materials like plastics or ceramics. For metal you can create similar (not covered by law) based on BfR-Guidelines (paper and carton) or The Council of Europe (metal).

Bobex,

I would ask the supplier of these materials for this statement.

Hello Bobex,

There is no such thing as "LFGB Certificate", meaning there is no (official) institution in Germany authorizing food contact materials. In the EU, compliance of materials and articles intended to come into contact with food has to been checked and declared in their own responsibility by the business operators, e.g. the manufacturer, the broker etc. The instrument is the "Declaration of Compliance" (DoC) (mandatory e.g. for plastics) or an equivalent declaration, as in the case of metal articles. As already mentioned, you should ask for these documents your suppliers, or issue, if you are the manufacturer.
