Must we notify SQFI / Certification Body about a new production line?
My company is looking at putting in another production line. If we do, does SQFI and/or the certification body need to be notified?
Lee,
Assuming the new line is in the same location as your previous audit and the product run on the new line conforms to the food catagory that you've been certified to you don't need to contact either SQFI or your CB.
But read the 2.3.1 code because you're expected to follow change management protocols. If the product was developed by your employer there are a set of protocols involving issues such as shelf life studies, etc. (SQF calls this "review of the product realization process in the Guidance Doc.)
Even if your company is simply a contract manufacturer you need to track significant change in your manufacturing processes to ensure that the changes don't compromise raw materials, work in progress, food contact packaging, and finished product.

From my understanding as long as you are documenting the changes as guided by esquef here, you do not need to notify SQFI/CB.
Answer: no with an exception - if the new line is being used to make something different from your bakery items in the other area then you need to contact your CB.
