Bioburden Testing for packaging material
Hello everyone!!
I am looking for some information about BioburdenTesting for packaging material or raw materials. One of our customer ask for this program for their Audit before we can pack for them.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Do your suppliers guarantee any cleanliness standards? Do you do any swabbing for microbiological pathogens?
Has your customer told you want bioburden levels are unacceptable? Example - milk products can spoil quickly but acid in products like tomato juice help keep the bacteria count from growing too rapidly.
Your customer will probably want to see test data that shows you don't have pathogenic contamination.
Some additional information such as what type of container and what your putting in the container might be helpful.
We pack frozen vegetables blends in poly bags, steamable bags, and doy bags and they are placed inside cases (corrugated.
The customer question is specifically directed to Bioburden testing for packaging.
Are these microbiological testing?
This requirement is kind of new for us.
Thank you for your comments.
Hi Kellio!
Here are definitions of 'bioburden & bioburden testing':
"Bioburden is normally defined as the number of bacteria living on a surface that has not been sterilized"
Thank you for your comments this is a great help.
