Hi Members being a certified BRC auditor for food safety I wanted talk about cloud base food safety traceability that I had the pleasure of beta testing call “Breadcrumb”

This program was part of the Ontario Government of Canada’s  The Traceability Foundations Initiative (TFI) is a three-year joint Federal-Provincial funding program to support voluntary, industry-led information sharing networks that will enhance agri-food traceability.

As we know under the BRC Food Safety Standards Issue 6 the traceability exercise during the audit has to be completed with a 4 hour window and I have to say I was quite impress with this program as the only took a matter of minutes to complete a finish good or raw material traceability exercise.

I will keep you posted will updates.

I do it manually using our SAGE accounting tool (only tool available and used in our organization)  and it takes hardly more then 5 minutes for me to complete the traceability   and maximum 10 minutes for any complex mixture ( both forward and backward traceability)  to show my auditor on my computer screen and another 10 minutes maximum to get the paper works as they all available in our archive chamber for all documents since last 5 years.

As the SAGE 200 system is quite robust it takes hardly 5 minutes to do a complete mass balance .

All raw materials are from approved suppliers and as an importer all paper works are up to date to meet unannounced BRC audit .

Never felt I will ever need any specialized tool for this task as doing traceability is fun and a good exercise to make the BRC audit more interesting.

Dear djp,

"manually / non-specialised" seems a slight euphemism.

Don't suppose you are in both the spice and beef industries by any chance ?.

 Hi!

Would you mind telling me a little bit more about this system? I work in a bakery and we need to create some traceability system (from a scratch). I don't know where to start!

Regards,

Iga

Hi Iga, this is quite an old topic, so unsure if the original poster is still around.

You may want to take a look at this discussion for ideas about traceability in a bakery.

Regards,

Simon
