Label Declarations
Dear all,
I have a question in regards to what should be put on the label in regards to ingredients?
I know i have to list what is in the description of the product in regards to percentages.
I was just wondering and really to confirm
The percentages of the ingredients should be of the finished product verified by a lab?
please advise when you can guys and thx
You'd think a label claim should be able to be drafted from the formulation. I know that is how we draft our labels.
Im not too sure about verification by a lab. Im interested to see what others think.
You do not need to get this done through a lab. We have based on our internal specification/recipe where the % are broken down. To my knowledge CFIA needs in descending order.
Hope this link will add more light :
USDA requirements: http://www.gpo.gov/f...l2-sec317-2.pdf
Ingredients declared in descending order of predominance according to your product formulation. No lab verification required.
Here in the US labels have a lot of requirements for retail, most often the companies I have worked have had a specialist whose expertise was in labels. If not retail its a bit easier. Don't know what they are like in your part of the world but you may want to consult with someone who is an expert in these issues.

The answer is detailed, regulatory wise, by documents published by FSA (and potentially with respect to EU). There are several threads here / attachments (ex FSA) if you search a little.
