Food Defense Training - internal threats

Hello!

 

We have identified that we do a lot of training in regards to keeping the building secure, identifying those that don't belong, etc. but we don't address how to identify and handle situations involving our own employee's. Although we have good hiring practices and believe we have good employee's, you never know when someone will become unhappy and want to do something to harm the product/company. I want to begin doing some training with supervisors on things to be aware of with their own employee's, etc. when it comes to food defense.

 

Any thoughts/ideas on things that should be included? Anyone have any trainings that they have done already that they would be willing to share??

Employees should try to observe signs that someone may act against the company:

 

Employees being in areas / working in rooms that they either don't have the access to or are not normally in. (Johnny is a packer but he's in a processing area for no good reason)

Employees speaking out against the company or the product. (Discontent against the company and after a time deciding to act out against it)

Employees being on the floor/production rooms without being punched in- or employee being in off-shift for no good reason. (see them just walk in and not punch in and go into production.  This leaves no record that the employee was on site)

Change in employee mood / habits (at one time the employee was smiling working hard now they seem angry/peed off and quiet)

Chemicals not locked up/put away in proper locations (I know Johnny had a sprayer with (X) chemical in it but I can't find it now)

 

Of course none of these things directly indicate that there is a potential issue but they could point to one and possibly trigger a conversation or an investigation.

All of what Mr.I said is valid. We have an electronic communication board that communicates this often (not the same message, but variations on the theme) We also have a product tampering phone number where someone can leave a concern anonymously. We cover this in annual training as well.
