What is the product?

I'm not sure what the product is but product release is going to have to look at the point in your process where you're releasing the product as safe product and all your inspections and analyses have been performed. Your best bet is to do what's called a pre-shipment review. Start by making a list of all your pre-requisites and CCPs and verify that all your requirements have been met from a food safety stand point. (ex. Foreign materials program, all metal detector checks have passed, this program is acceptable) Most of the time it doesn't need to be that complicated but its a good way for you and any of your employees to see what they're looking for when verifying that product is OK to release to customers. You'll also want to make sure you have your methods on how you do the verification and who's trained to do it documented.

Dear All / Ivan,

Although no product context is given in the OP (??) please note that this item is presumably packaging.

But, eventually, apparently not, see post #9

What is the product?

Its not for a specific product, just in general.

Before the product goes out the door--what requirements must be met for it to meet the regulations and your company standards?  Build from that. Some companies use a negative release.  For example it has not been stopped at any of the processes therefore it is safe to release.  (not my favorite)  Some companies use  a positive release, where they review whatever the company criteria is to make sure that all those have been met and can be released for sale.

Some companies use a negative release.

i wouldn't know about SQF but this will raise a (predatory)  smile from some BRC auditors.

:roflmao:    I can understand why, but have seen many cases where SQF auditors have allowed it.  I personally am not a fan.

What is the product?

Spices and Confectionary sugars. We just repackage them in smaller packages. we do not manufacture anything, we purchase it in bulk and its already blended and made.

Are you the OP? Two different accounts?

Dear Ivan,

(Not a SQF user but this is a generic response for a Food Positive Prod.RP)

A Positive Product Release Program IMEX for Food is basically an Excel sheet  which has a few columns such as Current Date, Product/Packaging Description, Lot Quantity , "Checking" Cross- References, Result.

5th Column references the relevant checks/records/forms you have issued to justify an assumption that the lot is "safe", ie released for shipment. The checks clearly depend on yr Quality manuals.

On the same issue, is SQF Product Release only for finished product?

I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate release of non-conforming product on returned product.

Are these two different things in the documentation?
