Is there any sense to HACCP for packaging

Is there any sense to design and develop HACCP in some specific packaging manufacturers like
1) manufacturer of corrugated paper boxes for packed food and drink producers
2) manufacturer of metalic caps for vodka and whisky bottles and plastic cover thermocaps for wine bottles
Any real examples in packaging industry?

In answer to your question yes I think so. HACCP is a systematic, tried and tested method for controlling food safety hazards in the food and modernly the food packaging industries. Whether you determine any Critical Control Points (CCP's) (and I doubt you will in any of the above processes) HACCP is a very good tool for helping you to understand you process better and for identifying and controlling inherent risks; most (all) of which you will be able to control through your GMP programme. In the UK HACCP or some form of hazard analysis has been a customer requirement for quite some time and is a fundamental requirement of the BRC Global Standard - Food Packaging.

It would be interesting to know the country you operate in Bon and where the pressures for HACCP are coming from (e.g. customers, standards). Whatever it probably won't go away so I would suggest the proactive approach may help you retain and possibly win new business in the future.

Agree that some times it does look silly to pursue a HACCP System in an obvious industry where the products would not have any opportunity to directly or indirectly contact the end product at all. But if you refer to the recent product recall that Franco brought to light recently in Italy, you would probably not had imagined how could potentially toxic chemical from the surface print of the Tetrapak had migrated into the content.

Thanks for your informative reply.
The country is Bulgaria. The pressure comes from three directions - from EC (strong), from local government and organizations (moderate) and finally - from local customers (weak). Especially for the HACCP in packaging the pressure comes mainly from the part of food producers.

Historically this has been the pattern. You can understand food producers wanting to cover their butts and assuring the safety of the packaging they use with their products is a necessary part of their food safety system. HACCP is not such a bad idea for packaging.
