Is chain link fencing acceptable around maintenance storage areas?

Hi,

We are in the process of obtaining out SQF certification.  Currently we are aslo in the process of a  construction project to add space to shipping, recieving and maintenance.  Does the SQF standard allow for chain link fencing around a maintenance shop and storage? If not what would be the ideal solution?

Is the maintenance area directly connected to the production area?  Are there walls of any kind between the two?  It would help to know what you are making, whether or not it is ready to eat, etc,

What type of product do you produce? Where is the location of the maintenance area in regards to the processing and storage areas?

 

The best and most ideal solution would be to completely enclose the maintenance shop, but I have seen certified facilities with an open shop. You need to ensure that the maintenance shop and its activities do not pose a threat to any product. I would highly recommend a clean room sticky mat to be put at the entrance of the shop area to prevent contaminants on shoes from being tracked throughout the facility.
