Glass & BP Disposal Policy

... I am in the process of updating the Glass & BP policy and one item that needs "upgrade" is the disposal of any breakage. Where would be the best place to locate the waste container (what is the best way to mark it also). There is a breakage form that is used (or supposed to).

In our system they can deposit the broken material, along with the cleaning equipment they used to clean it up with in case glass gets stuck in the brush / dustpan, into any garbage receptacle then then directly remove it from the production area and deposit it into the dumpster.  All of our "floor garbage" waste barrels are colored red so basically those are the ones they use.

In many of the past facilities I have been in we had small boxes designed for glass breakage that were to be used in the event of a breakage.  This way it was also contained when it went into the trash and was safer. 

I prefer dedicated colored containers and disposable heavy duty color coded dustbin bags used for the disposal of brittle materials.

If you use standard waste containers then a clean and check needs to be implemented after disposal.

If you put it in general waste, someone might push the trash down (to fit mroe of it in the bin) and cut themselves...

My guess is that it needs to be kept outside of production floor.

I was thinking of creating a designated area which will include the waste bin and the brush/mop and dust pan. All labeled to ensure employees are aware not to use them for any other purpose.

No I don't think so, a specific dedicated kit in the production area is fine.
