First Time SQF Gap Assessment-Help Needed

Morning All,

We have our first SQF gap assessment scheduled for next week ( small Food Contact Packaging ). I would like to know if I need to have a schedule laid out for him or he just goes clause by clause. I heard through past others experiences that they have / had a somewhat schedule made up, like first half of the morning- plant inspections, then paperwork, then lunch, then continue with paperwork...Not sure what approach I need to take.. I know he is there on our dime, but I want to take full advantage of his stay and not miss anything.... So if there is anyone that has gone through this and had success in getting everything covered / looked at...your feed back would be much appreciated.....

Thanks,

JJ

JJ,
I am somewhat surprised that you haven't received an agenda yet. You may want to ask for one. It has been a few years since our Gap Audit, but I am pretty sure we received one. Each Audit is different as to how they like to do things, so it's best to find out from them what they prefer.

Good Luck!

Hi NoahChris97,

On my GAP assessment I wasn't given an agenda either. It was a very loose feel. He used the same format as if it were the real audit. Really, you should use this as an opportunity to address any issues or real questions you may have on the standard. "I'm not sure about this, this is the approach I took __________, what is your opinion?" I think this is the best way to utilize your GAP assessment. Like you said he is working on your dime. I think you may want to ask if the GAP assessment would be available to your future auditor. From what I remember I think he said yes. Might want to be careful with that. Like always there is a caveat, not every auditor is the same. Some are more over zealous.

Dear Rosemary,

Precisely.

Also met one customer whose response to "BRC okayed it" was "So what" ? ;)

I have had a number of audits where I did not have an agenda.  I have been doing this long enough that I know for the most part the auditor is going to be looking for from a documentation standpoint, so I have a small selection ready with rest of documentation nearby, in case they want a deeper look.

A clause-by-clause review is common on gap assessments.  However, I would structure an agenda to cover the clauses where YOU think your gaps are first - that way if you need clarification, feedback on programs, etc. you get those questions answered.  Good luck!

Noah,

Let us know how it goes.
