Latest method to detect food dye?

what is the latest method to detect the presence of food dye like sudan dye in curry, chilli, and turmeric powder? is HPLC still relevant? i am an undergraduate and interested to study the presence of food dye. and im thinking of using hplc method. but im afraid that the method is no longer relevant.
