18 month Julian date from April 9, 2015

Hello, I was wondering if someone could tell me what the 18 month best buy date would be for April 9, 2015? I have October 7, 2016. Some of my colleagues believe this is wrong. They think it may be October 9, 2016. This is for a Canadian product. I am in the United States. Would the Leap year have anything to do with this? Thank you

I suggest checking the specifications.  Is the 18 month shelf life based on the number of days or on only the month?  Examples: For product produced on APR 09 2015, an 18 month shelf life based on days (548 days) the best by date would be OCT 08 2016 however, the best by date for one based on months only would be OCT 09 2016 because the number of the day always stays the same.  The months only method is very easy to track on a traditional calendar.  The 548 days method usually requires access to a computer and using a formulation, as Ninja_Neill gave above.

Finally, someone else who has actually thought thought of the mathematics of the Julian code! Thank you, Judy!

The answer to your question is that no-one else other than us has never, ever thought that far ahead! Just stick a BBE of 30th Feb +2 years and it keeps everyone happy! Will you marry me? I like long walks on the beach and mathematical equations. PM me, cause I like you.

Just wanted to add, I have printed and laminated the Julian dates for this year and next, they live on my packaging room clipboard. If I had to I could then do some quick math to get to a date far ahead.

FYI the julian date is ALWAYS based on the number of days in a year NOT the average number of days in a month so you can quickly account for a leap year, and calculating BB dates without confusion. There are lots of templates on line, the only I use has the number of days in a month on the Y axis and the months of the year on the X axis, so you can slide down and across easily for verifying date code!

I use this site for calculation:

which tells me October 9, 2016 would be the correct date.

Oh, I see that this site has already been posted in this thread. I concur--great date math tool!

Ahhh someone who understands that one question can have many facets!

How is it that we don't get together to drink?  Oh wait that's right that pesky Atlantic Ocean I'd guess.

Poor Shea....doomed to bachelorhood as Simon took the PM function away.   :crybaby:

Although may be a blessing in disguise for Judy.

We solve a lot of these questions by getting calendars with the Julian date on each square, then putting them around the facility.  That's especially important for us since our production codes contain the Julian date.

So...the answer may be...the ultimate answer to all legal questions, "It depends."
