Metal Detector - Certificate of Evidence

Hello All,

I am fairly new to the food industry.  Since I have been with my new employer I have gone through four different audits.  Our company is a small repackaging company.

During one of the audits the auditor asked if one of the products that we shrink wrap, not repack had been passed through a metal detector.  Since we do not manufacturer or repack the product we do not put the product through a metal detector.  The auditor is stating that our supplier must provide us with some sort of certificate of evidence that product has been passed through and detector and all meets standard? Is anyone familiar with this requirement? And if so, can share an example?

Thank you

Hi,

Is the auditor citing this as a non-conformance? or an improvement to the system. If a non-conformance he/she has to clearly state what clause  in the standard you are not in compliance with.

In my opinion if your company is only re-packing the product then all the supplier needs to provide is certificate from a accredited auditing body stating that they comply  with ISO 22000 FSMS standard or any other equivalent food safety standard.

If you take the road of asking the supplier for evidence that the product was passed through a metal detector, then you would have to ask  them for certificate that the raw materials they used were inspected and determine to fit for use in food production or a certificate that they clean and sanitize equipment before use. it can go on and on.

Hope it helps.
