Will the FSMA relate to Packaging Manufacturers?

We had a pretty lengthy conversation on Friday about the FSMA and implementation of it. It seems like packaging manufacturing continues to be that little gray area no one wants to dive into. The way regulations are adopted and passed leads me to believe that it is a question of when, not if, they will relate to us packaging manufacturers. I am curious what others think about this. Where do you see it leading?

The food manufacturers will need to qualify you as a supplier, as mandated by FSMA.  In that way, it will affect how you process your materials because your customers will need to show that your controls remove risks or that they have introduced controls that for the risks that your packaging presents to their product.

So, if you have a packaging GFSI certification (or if you can show in another way that your packaging is safe), it will make you a lower risk than a manufacturer who does not have that certification.  One way or another, they will need to have some form of "proof" that your packaging is safe for their foods.
