Manufacturing Aid vs Processing Aid
Does anyone have any insight on the difference between calling something a manufacturing aid vs a processing aid? I am seeing both used interchangeably on ingredient lists, but according to Health Canada they only have a definition for processing aid.
Thanks!
Processing aids are manufacturing aids. Anything that you put into a product treat it as an ingredient for your safety.
I'd support Benya on this. I always ask suppliers about processing aids as we are in the juice industry. Some suppliers use gelatin as a processing aid which means that our juice is NOT vegetarian/vegan! We generally have the discussion on it all being filtered out, but that doesn't hold. No gelatin allowed (or other animal products)!
That's what I am thinking as well benya. However, it would be nice if there was something stating this. I dislike interchangeable terms, just adds to confusion!

Hi qalearner,
One possible context -

Or maybe simply vernacular.
I daresay you are already familiar with "processing aid" re "food additive" if Canada same as USA, eg -

I agree processing aids = manufacturing aids.
No matter what they are called they should be safe to use.
