BRC 4.8.6 Hands-free taps

Would the "push button top" type tap be suitable with regards to meeting clause 4.8.6 as a hands-free operating tap? i.e. push top to turn on and they automatically switch off after a time period (don't need to touch it to turn it off).

Welcome to the forum first off.  Second in my personal opinion I would say no, it would have to motion activated or hip/foot/knee operated but I will let some others weigh in too.

My BRC experience mirrors previous post. And other factories i have (non-BRC) audited.

The foot-ones are more elegant IMO but seem to occasionally be a little selective.

Hi Rosie, I agree with the other members.  Should be hands free operation.  You can take it one step further and have a turn-style that employees may only pass through once the hand washing operation is completed effectively; it is more expensive and can be slow especially if you have a lot of employees.

Based on my experience, our maintenance team has had difficulty regulating the temperature on the hands-free taps.  Sometimes the taps run too hot, like scolding hot, which people will avoid and even avoid washing hands altogether, so we have to monitor hand washing when that does happen.
