Morning All,

Just looking for input / advise on Sanitation water hose reels. We are a dairy plant. BRC. The hoses are just hung up on hanger type bolted a pole kind of type. At times the hoses are on the floor either left by production or sanitation. Is going with hose reels a good idea? or is the food safety issues, QA concerns, or any cons with having hose reels in the production areas. If placed, it will not be located next to equipment lines of course.. your advise, 2 cents would be appreciated...

Thanks,

JF

We use hose reals and have at several other companies i have worked at. Put them on your cleaning list and you are good.

Hoses on the floor is to be avoided. As long as the design is consistent with sanitary equipment design standards (i.e. doesn't provide any harborage areas) and like Brianweber said ii is represented on a Sanitation Schedule somewhere you should be alright.

Sidenote: This whole time I thought his name was "Brainwebber" like some type of reference toward "linking brains together through the internet". Lol, after seeing it a hundred times it was only just now after typing it that I realized my folly.

P.s. Watch the pressure on those hoses, people underestimate the cross-contamination caused by splatter.

In my experience the simpler the design the easier it is to clean and keep clean.  If you decide to use a hose real, ensure it can be properly cleaned and kept that way.  One of the benefits with hoses hanging on a rack it that you are able to see the hose and inspect it easily.  If the hose is on a reel then you have to unwind it to inspect hose.

Whether it is a reel or a rack employees still have put the effort in to properly store the hose so you must consider if the added costs and efforts will be truly worth it?
