How can Human Resources contribute to Quality?

I wish to have your opinion and views on how can human resources contribute to quality achievement in an organisation?

Hello Shakti

 

As an HR representative you can facilitate training schedules and keep track of training logs on issues pertaining to food safety and GMP's in the plant. Training is a key component in SQF and so is accurate record keeping. What type of facility do you work in?

Great question.  In addition to training you got to make sure you employ the right candidates and also have a firm but fair disciplinary procedures.  So robust hire and fire policies and procedures.

Thanks for your comments.

I work in a feed manufacturing factory certified ISO 22000.

I am trying to look for ways to improve total quality . Need help from HRM.

I would definitely second the assistance with training. HR could organize your employees for you to lead food safety training sessions. I have found it hard in the past to organize different departments in the company and HR could certainly assist with that. Especially when it comes to having an updated list of what employees are still with the company!

 

HR could also take a lead role in the health and safety aspect of the employees training. Often health and safety is lumped together with food safety during training sessions and there is really no necessary expertise with food safety professionals when it comes to running both sides of this training.

I agree with the earlier replies of the contributors,

 

I believe that the HR can facilitate the training regarding quality, food safety, GMP etc. The HR should also keep on file the training records like attendance sheets, etc. as these will be looked at during audit.

 

Another thing is that, from time to time like by the end of quarter or year, the HR can update you on which employee/s had/had not receive training/refresher so that corrective actions regarding this can be done. 

 

And yes, I agree with Mr. Simon about employing the right candidate and having a robust hiring policy.
