Hello Everyone,

We are processor of Raw almonds. Does huller and sheller motors, bearing needs food-grade oil/grease since it is a harvest process? H1 lubricants are only for food product contact surfaces and H2 are not direct food contact surfaces. After accessing the plant if we found that our machines falls under H2 category would you recommend H-1 grade oil/grease since its a higher grade oil. Please advise. What would be the risk of applying H-1 category lubricants  on H-2 category machines or equipment.

Regards

Harmeet

The replacement of H2 lubricants with H1 lubricants would actually enhance the food safety aspects of the operation, however, it will be costly as H1 lubricants are more expansive then H2 lubricants.

Please visit the following link if you need details explanation of different type of lubricants.

According to our Maintenance personnel it is a bigger cost and sometimes the lubricants are not as good so research carefully.  If you have both, the key is to make sure you everything is labeled, to include tools used for applying the lubricants, and that the H1's are stored separately from the H2's so someone does not accidentally grab an H2 instead of an H1.
