Scope of Facility Audit

Hello

For a SQF Level 2 Audit are only the areas involved with the food manufacturing process & the exterior of premises  included in the facility audit?

Specifically, there is second floor office and bathroom in bad shape due to a roof leak.  Roof is fixed but damage to these areas not fixed yet.

No one involved with food handing uses this bathroom or office.

Nothing used for manufacturing or packaging is stored in this office.

The office and bathroom are not directly above the manufacturing plant and I do not believe there is anyway anything from this area could contaminate the manufacturing areas.

Even with roof leak, no water entered the manufacturing area.

For our GMP/HACCP audit, the upstairs was not inspected by the auditor.  I know SQF is more involved and am getting nervous thinking the auditor may want to see this area.

Thanks for any help

Hi, scoot915;

Technically, you must meet all local and state legislative/regulatory requirements for module 11. The entire facility, interior and exterior falls under code.

Generally 11.1.1 and 11.1.2 falls under the scope of an audit, however %99.9 of audits never unhinge around auxiliary areas of production. I would venture a bold guess that you'll be safe, but I would certainly mitigate any roof or plumbing leakage inside the facility  as a significant hazard. Water follows a very unpredictable path, and pathogens are not so cooperative with their migration notices...

Thanks for your answer,

You are absolutely correct about leakage being a significant hazard, I did not word that part great.

Roof leak was years ago & roof fixed shortly after. At the time of the leak water did not go into the manufacturing area. not to say that if we had another leak it would not present a hazard.

Yes, it would be subject to inspection.
