Pesticide Residue (Organic Products)
Hello,
I have some question!
We have BRC standard in company - we packaging nuts, seeds, dried fruits, organic products.
This products we packaging in one production line.
Firstly, It is possible, that pesticides residues will stay on production line (conveyor line), if firstly we packaging conventional pumpkin seeds (we will cleaning equipment) than we will packaging organic walnuts. It is possible that some pesticides residues from pumpkin seeds will be in organic walnuts.
Secondly, we should take Lab testing (pesticides residues) from conveyor line, equipment, actually this practice are real? I know that pesticides residues Lab testing are make from products.
This pesticides residues hazard on packaging equipment are possible?
In the June, 2016 we will have Organic audit from Europe.
Best Regards,
Karina
Hi Karina
You have do risk analysis of each step of your process to identify the risk at every step and then control the identified risks. So if you are processing organic nuts products you need to select suppliers who are certified to some quality standard and can provide you certificate of analysis for pesticide residue. You only accept products which have the pesticide residues with in the allowed limits for organic products.
based on that you can write in your system that risk of higher pesticide residue is minimum. U need to do write cleaning procedure for your plant and may be take swaps every six months and send them to laboratory for analysis to demonstrate that cleaning procedures are effective and any part of your plant does not has accumulation of pesticide residue which could be cause of concern from food safety point of view.
