Calibration of Light Meter
We have recently been advised that we need to calibrate the light meter that we monitor lighting levels with around our production facility. However I am unaware of how this can be done. I imagine as with the other testing tools we use here, when we send them away for calibration and it can be an expensive exercise. So for a handheld light meter that is worth about $100 this seems not to be the best option. I guess we could just purchase a new light meter annually to meet the calibration requirements; however this seems very wasteful to me. Has anyone encountered this before, or have any knowledge of how we may be able to meet the requirement?

Thanks Charles, we may purchase a cheap one to meet the requirement. However new light meters do not come with a calibration certificate. They are certified as accurate at time of taking out of the packaging and that seems to be about it. It seems wasteful to buy a new one annually just to meet the requirement.

It likely depends on how much usage is intended and what accuracy/documentation is actually required (demanded?). And the budget of course.
For example, thermometers have a similar problem but one common solution is to invest in one, relatively expensive, unit which is officially calibrated annually and then used to "authenticate" various other cheap units (sub-masters) for routine factory use. However It is possible that this internal option not feasible since sub-calibration of luxmeters maybe not as simple as thermometers (appears to require lightboxes)(no idea since never had the lighting queried, IMEX is an unusual comment.
On the other hand, if it is only to be an annual thing, maybe easier to simply pay a 3rd party to do a one-off.
Do you think the lighting is sub-standard ? IMEX the workers are the first to complain about such things.
