I am working in the food safety systems. Tons of tons research on food safety systems but still no food safety is perfect. 7 billion total population of world. Every day thousands of epidemics happen worldwide. Even though I see monopoly of some companies with consultant on Food safety systems worldwide. For example in USA: In USA one of my friend said that they give money to consultant, he arranged each and every thing upto certification. Now they are supplying food items to biggest retail chain in USA. Amazingly this consultant visit quarterly and arrange their documents on quarterly basis. Food safety members of IFSQN don’t mind this. This is example only because USA is super power.

Under GFSI standards unannounced audits are coming and will eventually be the norm.  Then companies will not get away with getting up to standard just for the scheduled audit; they will have to be 24/7/365 ready.  Don't worry these things that make you angry are well know and are being addressed...it will just take some time.

No system will ever be perfect.  It is beyond the ability of imperfect humans.  However, I have seen an increased awareness about food safety in the last few years.  I think this is a good thing.

I can understand your frustration with spending lots of time and money on food safety and possibly not seeing immediate benefits.

Also, please note that GFSI and their benchmarked food safety programs are not headquartered in the USA.  The recent USA FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is meant to bring the USA up to the level of what other countries are already requiring.  Many people have the opinion that Europe is leading the USA in terms of food safety.
