How to maintain continuity of product supply during a crisis?
hey folks,
Please i need your help
2.1.6 Business Continuity Planing ( SQF)
i have some issues implementing this section
How to maintain continuity of product supply during the crisis? for example number of hours with no power, rise in product temperature prior to moving to alternative storage location.
if there a fire or accident at one of your facilities, how are you going to ensure that your customers will still get delivery of your product?
whats are your plans for a key supplier going out of business or begin affected by a natural disaster ?
any help or advice will be appreciated
Start with those problems and questions, get a team together and figure out how to solve them. Simplified example:
Fire destroys facility.
Customer's practice is to keep 45 day's-worth of stock on-hand
Our co-packer can take over our production volume within 30 days
Our suppliers can re-route to our co-packer within 10 days
Our distribution can re-route to our co-packer within 1 day
Result of plan: Customer's stock does not drop below 10-15 day's-worth on hand
This continuity plan is documented, tested (and documented that it is tested), and reviewed by the team.
I have grouped the business continuity plan with all other similar plans - Food Defense, Crisis and Natural Disaster Plan, Power Failure, etc.
Some situations will be addressed in other elements of the SQF code, such as alternate suppliers, your recall and hold programs, etc. I have attached my Business Continuity Plan and the table of contents of my Food Defense/Crisis Management manual.

thank you guys for your help
Food Defense is a proactive program - what you do to prevent intentional contamination. The reaction to such an event could be included in your Business Continuity plan.
Business Continuity (BC) is a proactive response to create a reactive program that describes how you will react to anything that severely impacts your ability to continue normal business operations. SQF focuses on the ability to deliver "quality and food safe products" (Level 3).
However, in a larger scope, BC could also include: employee strikes, loss of data, media scares, terrorist activities, etc.
