FSSC 22000 is fully recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and is based on existing ISO Standards. It demonstrates a company has a robust and effective food safety management system (FSMS) in place to meet the requirements of regulators, customers and consumers. This webinar will update attendees on the changes contained in Version 4 of the FSSC 22000 standard and provide practical insight that will help you comply with the latest requirements.
Unedited chat logs from today's webinar:
As Jules could not join live today and answer your questions we will follow up with you all by email.
As promised posted below the replies from Jules Roger.
The presenter said it will be completed in October 2016?
Currently the Foundation FSSC 22000 is working on version 4 of the FSSC 22000 scheme documents. We expect that FSSC 22000 version 4 will be published in the beginning of October 2016 prior to the FSSC 22000 Harmonization Events 2016.
Not voluntary unannounced audits?
The FSSC 22000 unannounced audit program will be mandatory for the FSSC 22000 certified organizations. During the three year certification cycle one of the two surveillance audits have to be replaced by an unannounced audit.
Please help with explaining what are pilot audits?
I think this is a misunderstanding. As explained during the webinar, the Foundation FSSC 22000 has performed a pilot for unannounced audits. CBs and FSSC 22000 certified organizations have participated in this pilot program. The results of the pilot was used to develop the FSSC 22000 unannounced audit program.
Is there any change in 'FSSC additional requirements?
Yes, there are new additional requirements added. Food Fraud and Food Defense are new additional requirements.
Could you please provide the 2 links for the mitigation tool?
Report formats on Version 4. Can you provide to us more information?
The audit report template for the FSSC 22000 audit report is currently under development. Organizations and CBs will be informed timely and there will be ample time for implementation of the new mandatory audit report.
What it the point of view for food fraud in FSSC?
Is it in terms of food safety or economic gain? "Food Fraud - The intentional adulteration of food with the intention to deceive and motivated by the prospect of financial or economic gain."
The FSSC 22000 -Q integrate the food safety and food quality systems in one standard?
FSSC 22000-Q integrates FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001. One integrated audit that results in one integrated certificate, integrating food safety and food quality.
If a food company already have an ISO 9001: 2015 certificate system, it would be better to move for a FSSC 22000 Q and have 1 integrated system
Yes, this can be an advantage for a certified organization to integrate the two standards in one certificate.
If there is additional module of FSMA, is there additional certificate issued with FSSC?
No, FSSC 22000 does not have a dedicated FSMA module.
The upgrade to the new version of FSSC V4 can be with a surveillance audit?
Yes, that can be possible. Please contact your certification body for more information.
What means unannounced ? Really unannounced or e.g.. unannounced in a predetermined period such as 1 month or 1 quarter ?
The certified organization is not notified in advance. The audit is a so-called "surprise audit", really unannounced.
If it is food safety why FSSC refers to horsemeat scandal?"
The horse-meat scandal was one of the triggers for regulators and the GFSI to demand for unannounced audits.
How can we align ISO 9001:2015 on FSSC 22000 new version ?
The FSSC 22000 version Q-Module will use ISO 9001:2015. After publication of FSSC 22000 version 4 you can certify organizations using ISO 9001:2015.
FSSC is totally different from FSMA, and GFSI?
FSSC 22000 is a private certification scheme for certifying food safety management systems (FSMS). FSSC 22000 is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is USA legislation.
You can see the publication the difference of FSSC and FSMA from FSSC website." FSSC 22000 has been compared with FSMA by the Acheson Group (TAG). The result of the comparison can be found on the FSSC 22000 website. www.fssc22000.com
When we arrange the audit plan, FSSC 22000 seems to be longer than BRC, what is the reason for this? The customers are not willing to hear this.
FSSC 22000 has its own requirements for the audit time calculation. This is the minimum time needed to conduct an full FSSC 22000 audit.
I think so, but if there is a change going to be happening with the new version?
"Need to revise the FSSC 22000 Scheme in 2016:
Updating current FSSC 22000 Requirements
Expected publication of GFSI BR Version 7
Government expectations esp. NL, UK, FR and USA (FSMA)"
Dear,
As FSSC relates to food safety only so If the food fraud is not related food safety issue, I think the no need to assess for FSSC. It is not like BRC/IFS as both of them related to food safety and food quality. Am I right?

But could some forms of food fraud also be a food safety concern?
I can think of one, melamine in infant formula. It was a fraud to bulk up the protein, but it killed babies.
Until you do the assessment for your particular product and industry you will not understand the realistic threats and the hazards created by the potential fraud. I think it is a good thing to do irrespective of whether required by a standard or not.
