Unit of measurement for vitamin E
Good Morning,
I have been reading the FDA fortification policy released in April 2015. The unit of measure for Vitamin E is listed as 'do' and FDA recommends a fortification of 1.5 per 100 calories. Does anyone know what 'do' stands for as a unit of measurement.
Thanks
This is a stumper. I've been trying to find a reference to this and nothing shows. There are many nutrients that use that "do" for the units in that regulation, so this is not confined to Vitamin E. I suggest that you call/write/email the FDA and ask them. Can't hurt. Then post what they tell you because it's driving me batty!

I presume the list referred is this -

By visual only, do = ditto, ie same unit as one above it (for the RDI).
should be easy to verify for a few items.
PS - seems to work, can compare the list here -

Though why use "do" is an equally interesting question.

I think you got it! I've never seen "do" as a short form of ditto, and why would they use ditto instead of the units themselves, all of which are only 2 letters?
But, it's the government.......
