Who conducts receiving lot code recording in your business?
Hi all,
Lately, we have been having discussions around our receiving procedure and which group should be recording lot codes on the paperwork.
Originally QA was short of staff so the receiver/material handler would fill in the lot codes when writing down quantities.
Since then, it is written down by QA or Receiving (whoever gets to it first).
Which leads me to - how do other companies operate - who owns the lot code recording at receiving?
I have it set up so the receiving employee does it. From there the paperwork goes upstairs to the office folks. They double check it. Any discrepancies and they bring it to me to figure out. Knock on wood that has only happened once and it was due to not being able to read something so they guessed...
Hi,
We have the receiving employees record the lot numbers and verify the numbers. This is part of their normal duties along with trailer inspections, inspection of incoming products, checking trailer seals, etc.

I have instructed my WH staff to record this.
He has to verify that he is receiving correct quantity and in case there are multiple lots of same product delivered the only way he can account for quantities of different lots is by him recording the lot numbers.
Once WH records all this information quality department checks its when sampling is performed.
Cheers
WH staff record the code according to documented CODING RULE in our company.
the WH staff gives and records lot numbers
For our lot #'s they are based up our purchase order. Purchasers create a P.O. # when entering orders into inventory, receivers then enter the P.O. # along with quantities/weights of products into inventory as the receive. Lot #'s are then maintained by inventory as they move product around facility & finally product is tagged as it is being shipped by order pickers/shippers as it is loaded. This allows for full trace ability for products in event of a recall.
It is usually the receiving employee. If trained properly, he/she should be able to handle this with no problem. As with other inspections, this too must be verified by QA.
