Risk assessing water hoses

Hi all,

Water hose carrying water under high pressure ( 330bar/4500 psi)  to equipment. The maintenance guys were asked whether this hosing was food grade, when they investigated the suppliers told them sheepishly that it if " suitable for food plants" but couldn't come up with food grade certification. What are the risks apart from if the hosing ruptures an pieces fall into the product? It is blue in colour so would be immediately obvious as would the spray of water coming from the rupture......water being carried is potable, municipal supply.

Hi trubertq,

Maybe easier to replace the unknown status hose with a pressure compatible, food grade (FG), equivalent, eg

One might query the meaning of the above link's "food grade" . An answer will maybe indirectly offer a partial safety-related answer to the OP's query. i fear a general solution will be elusive although the above link's pdf offers some directions of enquiry.

it's OT but a similar FG conundrum here -

I believe the auditor is eluding to risk of toxic chemicals being leached into the water stream and then onto any equipment you are using to clean with the pressure washer.  Which can be a definite concern.

Yes indeed, it should be "food grade".
