Who signs the Food Safety Documents at your company?
Hi my favorite people.
We are changing our Food Safety Management System from PrimusGFS to BRC. I have a question about signing the Food Safety and Quality Policy/Objective... or documents in general.
Under PrimusGFS the President of the company would sign the Food Safety Policy, and all other policy's.
Under BRC, is it the same situation or is the Food Safety Manager supposed to be signing? I ask because I see documents that say "Company Managing Director".
Feedback is appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Dear CaliforniaFS,
In our case, we are BRC7 certified, our General Manager/Country Manager the highest position in our company, sign the "Approved by:".

Hi CaliforniaFS
We have the relevant director (VP) sign. For food safety, it will be the Technical Director, for commercial policies etc it is the Commercial Director and for company wide issues (Food Safety Policy, General Statements etc.) then the MD.
From the Interpretation Guide:
"The policy is signed or endorsed by the person with overall responsibility for the actual site, to
demonstrate the commitment at senior management and site level. Where the policy is a group or
company-wide statement, the site management should endorse it, for example by countersigning the
statement."
So if the President was signing under PrimusGFS, I would recommend he/she continue to sign under BRC.
If necessary, the local Plant Manager (or equivalent) would also endorse it.

thanks everyone :)
We are also BRC certified and all our policies are signed by the President of the company and other department heads where applicable.
A general policy usually covers the entire facility, so the facility manager should sign.
Otherwise whoever is ultimately in charge of a program or procedure (program owner) should sign.
Hi,
The Policy should be signed by the CEO/MD of the company. It should also be reviewed annually to ensure still current.
Other policies can be signed off by the head of technical/Technical Manager.
