Packaging - Product identification/Traceability

Dear All,

We manufacture pet resin packaging products i.e bottles and preforms. For product identification and trace-ability, we have been using quality sticker which is applied on every packed bag containing bottles and box containing preforms. Is there any other better way to manage this where you can be able to identify every individual bottle or preforms in case of any mix-up?

Kindly advise.

regards,

Maurice.

Hi Maurice,

Any particular "FS" Standard involved ?

(For example see the non-Packaging/SQF thread just below this one -

Hi Maurice,

Your system seems quite acceptable.

I guess you could spray code the bottles but that may interfere with what the customer wants on the bottle.

Kind regards,

Tony

Hello Maurice,

The best logical point is "prevent the mixing-up to happen". The keyword is prevention which you have to focus by putting check points where you have still in control.

The question is...how often do mix-ups happen and how much does it cost you?  If it is often and significant then it is worthwhile to put the resources to label more.  Then again..as another person posted you want to prevent the mix-up in the first place.  I would say you are fine with what you have and spend your time and energy on preventing the mix-ups.
