Hi Midooo,

This will depend on your hazard identification and assessment and if you identify a risk from metal that is not controlled but could be managed by a metal detector (with rejection mechanism).

ISO/TS 22002-1 Prerequisite programmes on food safety — Part 1: Food manufacturing
10 Measures for prevention of cross-contamination
10.1 General requirements
Programmes shall be in place to prevent, control and detect contamination. Measures to prevent physical, allergen and microbiological contamination shall be included.
10.4 Physical contamination
Based on hazard assessment, measures shall be put in place to prevent, control or detect potential contamination.
NOTE 1 Examples of such measures include:
a) adequate covers over equipment or containers for exposed materials or products;
b) use of screens, magnets, sieves or filters;
c) use of detection or rejection devices such as metal detectors or X-ray.

Kind regards,

Tony

Thanks Tony;

Our product is white crystal sugar and it's physical hazards are ( Ferrous, Non Ferrous & St.St).

Our Planned control measures:

  1. Magnets to detect metal contamination before filling in bags.
  2. Routine samples every 2 hr, to analyse sugar and have the insoluble matters in a specified quantity and test method.
  3. Also check for each patch of incoming bags.

Note:

the factory now is on startup period, so my opinion I support to start with the controls mentioned above till we have an evidence for physical hazards that our controls cannot measure and then we may buy metal detectors.

waiting your response.

Thanks

Midooo
