Glass and Brittle plastic Inventory list
We are working on updating our Glass and Brittle plasitc inventory sheet I were wondering how detailed we must get as far as office-related inventory. I know that in a process environment, everything must be accounted for, but we only store and distribute pre-packed goods that are never opened by us. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know how much help it is, but I did not include any office stuff in my inventory list. Our offices do not open directly into a processing area, and we have policies that limit glass and hard plastics in the processing area. Perhaps if you have any office-type stuff that is adjacent to a production area. Hmm, maybe I need to update my list...
What I did in my company is I have a glass & brittle checklist for production area or area where raw materials/ WIP/ finished products are stored. On weekly basis, we will check the condition of the glass/ brittle materials & report for any damage. At the same time, production operators are trained to report to executive/ manager whenever they spotted any damage on glass/ brittle materials.

We are a printing industry manufacturing food packaging following BRC issue 5 or packaging and packaging material. The standard requires us to do DETAILED inventory for all glass and hard plastic that is within the processing area and offices. What we did is PER AREA we create categories for ease inventory and identification if the auditor will decide to do verification of the inventory.

My question is more that there is no processing going on at our facility at all. The office is separate from the storage area, and furthermore, the product stored is sealed bags of starch. I really don't see the need to do a complete inventory of everything INSIDE the office but I want to make sure that I am adhering to the BRC standard...
The BRC Issue 7 Standard (Food) says this:
"4.9.3.1 Glass or other brittle materials shall be excluded or protected against breakage in areas where open
products are handled or there is a risk of product contamination."
If there are no open products, then the clause does not apply.

only glass and brittle items where your processing ( stored ) items are held and where they are staged needs to be on your list
