New here! Query FDA requirement traceability packaging
Hello,
Been in the food industry for 10 years in Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
Currently working with a company helping them implement all the HACCP pre-requisites. As they are inexperienced in a lot of food safety issues, they wanted me to find out if Tracing Packaging material is required. I know as an industry it is usually done for a recall/traceability program to function but I could not find an FDA guidance
Any thoughts? or help on how I can prove to them that it is important.
Thank you!
Nestle had a recall for ink bleeding onto foods a while ago. In my plans/programs I always take the approach of product contact=maintain traceability. This includes equipment and tools as needed. So we track primary packaging (pouches, bottles, caps), but not secondary (corrugate, labels).
I haven't ever traced DPC clear poly bags etc. simply because they're so low risk and I've never heard of a recall traced back to them. They're also easy to inspect in use.
