US Food Labelling Regulations
hi
Can someone please direct me to act/legislation for US labelling regulations?
all of our packaging is set to comply with EU 1169/2011 but as we want to export to US we have to change the labels
the information I found on FDA website is from 2013. Is it still accurate? are there any changes coming soon?
I prefer to work from legislation then use guidelines just not sure which legislation is regulating this matter.
thank you in advance

Hi karina,
Perhaps you can post the specific 2013 link which you are referencing above ?
Hi karina,
Thks above.
i suspect a precise answer to yr query may not be that simple, eg -
addendum
The pdf guide (2013) looks impressive but is surely out of date in some places as you probably fear.
Here's another independent compilation which looks informative but is undated so unknown credibility -
https://www.ag.ndsu....kaging-labeling
Again, the cfr page shold be oficial and looks good but no explicit mention of allergens (!?) -
thank you
i will have go through it all then and hopefully be able to pick up all the changes

I was looking for the same topic few months ago, I found that there a new changes regarding the nutritional label ..

I am going through CFR at the moment and to be honest have a problem... do we have to and which vitamins and minerals should be presented under nutrition table
we produce gluten free cakes, cookies and biscuits, pies and tarts.
European legislation is more direct and simpler to read
21 CFR part 101 covers all the requirements of food labeling, with a section for each component except food allergens, which are covered in the Food Allergen Labeling Protection Act (and I hadn't realized before your question that they never made it into the CFR, wow!).
The 2013 food labeling guide is still very relevant and a good resource! The only parts to watch out for are the nutrition labeling/nutrition facts panel areas which have been updated. The required formatting and which vitamins etc. are included can be found in this guidance and others. But once again, the CFR has been updated with this information and you can look for alternatives/exemptions for your product there in 101.9
Your labeling needs to have the following components, each of which you can look up separately in the CFR to feel out the requirements. The CFR is much easier to digest when you're exploring just one requirement at a time vs. reading the novel.
Principal Display Panel:
Statement of identity (which may accompany a "fanciful name")
Net quantity of contents
Information panel (with no intervening information such as UPC):
Nutrition facts panel
Ingredient statement with allergen declaration
Name and address of manufacturer
For questions about how you can name your product USDA actually has some good (but older) guides for naming foods. They were/are weird about product names and so created decent guidance.
Most Welcome Karina , well! you have to look for the product characteristic - nutrient content for each - any additives will be added to reach the Daily intake vitamins & minerals - DV *each country is different* .
I agree with you that the EU Regulations much easier & very clear. I even found the Irish one more better.
Use USDA Nutrient Data base to identify your Food type - component & nutrient content
and to calculate the DV - Check the below link
https://www.fda.gov/...n/ucm064928.htm
and the complete guide
And some tools I found regarding this matter

thank you all for time and help
you are the best :)
