Asset Tracking...

So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question but we have many assets that get moved around our many buildings (welders, torches, forklifts, etc...). We recently had our fire extinguishers re certified and it was difficult to figure out where all of the torches were to get their fire extinguishers checked. I was thinking about the technology that exists for finding your keys or other things (Tile) that you attach to it and can locate items. Does anything exist like this for commercial grade use that would tolerate weather, water, maybe chemicals? If not I guess putting the tile in a protective sleeve would work. Just trying to see whats out there?

Perhaps the simpler solution would be that the maintenance department has a sign out/in system? Then you'll know who had the piece of equipment last? Should also help with theft......

S.O. is a millwright, everywhere he has worked, these types of equipment are just etched with a number when purchased for asset tracking/warranty.

Sorry, have not heard of a tracker that can withstand the abuse

Why isn't your maintenance department dealing with this?

That would be a great idea. To answer most all your questions our maintenance department is not able to properly document what it is currently doing let alone monitor a sign out sheet. I agree that would be a free easy fix.

I appreciate the feedback.
