What controls are required for Delivery Drivers?

Hello everybody.

We produce food packaging.  Our consultant states that delivery drivers must not enter our plant unsupervised and strongly recommends that they are not allowed in...or there is a controlled area for which they can observe.

Our shipping/receiving team believes that it would be acceptable for them to be on our floor as long as they signed in and go through the GMPs, etc. The shipping/receiving team also stated that the person unloading the truck is "supervising" the driver.

Any suggestions so I can get out of the middle of this?

Thanks!!!

as a food packaging converter we do not allow truck drivers in to our facility, we installed a 'corral' at the back door for them to stay in. If they do need to enter our facility i.e. to use the restroom, they must be escorted by an employee and must adhere to our GMPs as well, (hairnets, beard nets, etc.)

when you get audited it will be to which ever food safety standard you are using not what your shipping/receiving people believe.

Our drivers are restricted to the receiving area only & must adhere to our GMPs (no outside food or drink, uniforms, footwear, etc.). If they do not wish to conform to this, they are made to wait in their vehicles.

we only allow the drivers in if there is an issue with the load - and then they have to be escorted and follow GMP's.  They wear a red hair net which is what we use for all of our visitors.

Dear Pondo,

Your consultant makes a good observation*, which has to be taken into consideration. This may implicate decisions to be taken by the management team of the company. It is better to define a clear line than to let things in between.

Good luck!

We built a trucker's lounge - - 8 foot fencing around an area with a water fountain and a bench entered AND exited from/to the outside.  They can't go anywhere in the facility.

I can't tell you how much I've dealt with everybody's individual beliefs around here.  They get to keep on believing until an auditor nails us.  Every audit, more people start believing the same this I do  :ejut:

There's the easy way and the hard way....
