Timer calibration

Hi all,

 

I seek your help to advice me on timer calibration. Can we do timer calibrate using comparison method between oven timer and mobile phone clock based on the national time control by the service provider?

 

I have one NCR need to close by this week. Hope u guys can help me.

Wow, I've honestly never seen a calibration program for clocks or timers, but it makes sense if you had a time/temperature control in your process. I just have trouble imagining a "clock" that goes out of calibration like that.

 

Just like anything else, a periodic comparison to a traceable standard should be an effective "verification". I think your mobile phone clock taken from the network would be an appropriate comparison provided you substantiated how accurate that clock is expected to be with a description from the provider (e.g. clock app readme or description).

My personal experience is that my mobile phone clock needs to be reset every 2-3 months. On some mysterious way, after a few months ! am always 6 to 9 minutes ahead. Even though the settings say it is automatic updated with provider's values.

Therefore this method would not provide me confidence.

 

But, I wonder, what is your process and how critical is the time? should it be exactly on seconds or minutes? Or is it a few hours and does it actually not matters if the time is exceeded with a minute of 5?

Anything that is used for calibration needs to be traceable to NIST.  Unfortunately phones do not carry that certificate of calibration.

At our facility, we purchase low cost hand held timers or stop watches.  Since they are so inexpensive, we replace each year to ensure the NIST standards are being met.

Hi I use a phone app UTC time which sincs with NIST.
