Legislation Statement – how to keep up to date?
Hi, As part of our BRC requirements we have a leglislation statement listing leglislation we adhere to. I don't know a lot about this area and our auditor has pointed out that our list is very outdated and includes acts which are no longer in force and misses out some we should really have down. Somehow it has fallen down on me (the clueless) to redo this list.
Does any one know what the vital leglislation is that I should be listing (and reading of course) so far I have
* EU regulation 2073/2005 microbiological criteria for foods
* Codex Alimentarius
* The food information act No 1169/2011
* The general food law regulation 178/2002
* The food safety act 1990
* The food safety and hygiene (England) Regulations 2013.
The allergen regulations and OM regulations are referenced on other documents.

Dear Nikki,
In addition to the comments above, try to obtain and to mention the chapters which are specific to your products. What you have right now is framework legislation and that is not detailed enough.
So for example: if you use additives, you put in the concerning additive chapters. If you label your product, put in the labelling legislation etc. If you sell your products with a specified weight, these are subject to the product quantity declaration legislation. Etc... until you have gathered all the specific chapters.

I think I am there but can anybody see anything vital I may have missed? Also does anybody know if the is a fifth edition of the codex alimentarius. I read somewhere last year that they were working on a fifth edition but can no longer find any mention of it on the internet anywhere.

6. COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No 1881/2006 of 19 December 2006 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs
7. The Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods Regulations) 2006

Thank you Yas, This is where I auditor picked us up on. The list created by my manager was full of obsolete legislation which included health and safety and trading standards. Apparently this list was created 13 years ago and not updated. As our internal auditor I have no idea what should have been included and passed it as the hyperlinks worked and he is the "Expert". We were saved from a non conformance by the fact that when I wrote procedures I reference the leglislation in the procedure. Not sure we could get away with it again though as she pointed it out :shutup:
