Hi all.

We have quite a number of customer complaints on foreign bodies in canned products some of which are crawing and flying insects.

We have invested on the following control measures to curb ingress of insects in production area:

  1. Double exits and entrances automatic closure doors.
  2. Door brushes and flaps.
  3. Insectocutors.
  4. Drain seal covers.
  5. Sealed roof
  6. Meshed windows.
  7. Baits and traps
  8. Monthly treatment againt crawing insects.

In addition,we do fogging on monthly basis and ensure product in covered prior to seaming.

However, despite all these control measures,we are still getting some claim of insects as foreign bodies in our product especially on rainy seasons.

Where do you think we to improve to minimise the claims?

Dear Kamau,

You have a very interesting question. The following article could be hopefully helpful:

https://qualitic4u.c...t-free-company/

As well as the following points to look at, as you didn't mention them:

  • The compartimentation of the building
  • Are there places which were not reached by the treatment? (Technical installations for example - Please take the necessary precautions, when you go into them).
  • Reading your points, it isn't clear (for me) whether the infestation source is internal or external (this is important to determine)
  • Identification and biological lifecycle of the crawing insect (it maybe that their reproduction cycle is shorter than 1 month)

I hope to have informed you sufficiently and I wish you good luck in resolving this issue.

Kind regards from France,

Gerard Heerkens
