Implementing ISO9001-2015 with BRC Packaging Standard
Here's hoping someone may be able to give me some pointers.
We already hold the BRC Packaging Standard and customers overseas are requiring us to obtain ISO9001-2015 certification (I think they don't understand the BRC systems). Apart from buying a copy of the Standard & carrying out a gap analysis, can someone give me some thoughts on what else needs to be done, how long it may take, is it best to combine the two systems in one manual etc, etc........
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks in anticipation.
You won't be able to integrate ISO9001 and BRC into one manual as ISO is process based and BRC is a set of directives. I'm currently implementing OHSAS18001 and ISO14001 into a BRC company. We will move to ISO45001 from OHSAS18001 in due course, which will allow us to integrate and we will also add ISO9001. The integrated manual will be the ISOs only though.
Bear in mind that ISO9001 will cover the whole company (finance, sales, marketing, HR, logistics et al) and not just the manufacturing part. There are some good consultants and forums out there and plenty of free stuff available. A good start point is to read the standard and the interpretation guide to see what you're up against. Not much is transferable from BRC except management review, non conformances/complaints and document management.
We've got a tool/gap analysis between Issue 5 and ISO 9001: 2015, you can download it from here -> https://www.brcgloba...p-and-guidance/
Scroll down the page a bit, it's document P556.

Hi BrummyJim,
Acttually I posted an example (BRC5 food) manual here a few years back but i don't recall if it had actually passed both audits.
Hi Rosemary.
We currently have the QMS written out to reflect the ISO9001:2015 Requirements and included some BRC Packaging standards in also. I know you don't need one for ISO9001 but as we all ready have one we decided to keep it and adapt it.
Covers all bases and no issues. There will be some areas that cross over but imo ISO moved away from Quality management which held with BRC requirements, to Business management. hence 4.1 - 4.2 ISO
Bad ISO ! Bad !
Look great,, thanks
