11.6.8.3 New Loading Rule
The SQF 8 Code Changes | Guidance Document says:
11.6.8.3 Vehicles (e.g. trucks/vans/containers) shall be secured from tampering using a seal or other agreed upon, acceptable device or system. New element.
The Guidance Document is EMPTY for this new (and very hampering) code. Not just empty, but unchanged from 7.2!
It looks like SQF got halfway through and then just gave up. This is a big change for us and we are hanging in the wind.
Couldn't agree more. We already had a seal on all incoming full trucks, but have had limited success convincing LTL companies to seal their trucks just for us & track it. Here is some "nonbinding guidance" from FDA about securing against tampering. Click on Transportation/Distribution, and then the LTL option.
- Keep one operator with transportation at all times (e.g., use relay operators, relief driver, peer-monitoring)
Because That's Feasible!!
I interpret the key section of this element to be " or other agreed upon, acceptable device or system"
If it's LTL, get a hold of UPS/Fedex/whatever carriers policies are for protection of shipped items and keep that as your "agreed upon system"
