Concrete Floor Repairs in Frozen Food Bakery Processing Plant

Started by , Feb 01 2018 10:02 PM

Sounds like you'll be all set, this is the same kind of floor that several of SQF clients have put down.

Do check one item, this is something we saw at one facility -- different contractors use different mixes for the top coat, some fume off.

Have them put down a sample for you and check it yourself to ensure this will not be an issue, better to do a tiny section first than to discover what one of our new clients did after laying down 500,000 square feet of this stuff that fumed off enough to cause an issue.

Hello,

Our food processing plant is going to start repairs on a concrete floor that has cracks and some pretty substantial gauges.  This repair will encompass the entire production floor.  Does anyone have any insight into the requirements for SQF and such a repair?  We will have a 100% grind on the concrete.  We do anticipate some dust however we will have the equipment removed from the production floor.  We are looking at a three coat system with a base coat with sand broadcast, second coat of epoxy, and urethane top coat.  We have been told by our contractor that they have used these supplies in other food processing facilities and will be providing us with all the SDSs.  Beyond our facility review and approval system is there anything else that we should be doing?  Thank you in advance!

SQFconsultant, can you please explain what "fume off" means?  And how it could potentially affect food safety?

We are looking at possibly doing a coating on our cement floor as well...I'm trying to learn as much about what to do (and what to avoid) before we get started on the project, so that I can give some guidance to my bosses.

Thanks,

Brian
