Rail car shipment of flour during summer months

We had issues in the past with flour beetle infestation when receiving flour in rail car shipment during summer months. We moved away from rail car shipments since then, but there are talks of moving back to rail car shipments once again.

How do you prevent infestation in a rail car shipment during summer months?

Can any one share how food industries in warmer climates handle such shipments and what do they do to prevent infestation?

Thank you.

Hi pghosh,

I am not an expert in this field but I believe Phosphine gas fumigation is often used.
The FAO website has information on this in their Manual of Fumigation for Insect Control document
